Assignments for Year Two: New Testament (2009)
with Fr. Felix Just, S.J., Ph.D.

Readings:

• Primary Text:  The Holy Bible (use any “Study Edition,” with extensive introductions, notes, maps, etc.)
• Secondary Textbook:  Raymond E. Brown. An Introduction to the New Testament. NY: Doubleday, 1997.
• Please do the assigned readings before coming to each month’s session. If you don't have time to read everything in advance, make sure you at least read the books of the Bible before each month's session, and then finish the secondary readings afterward.
• Brown’s book is long and detailed, so you are not expected to read every single word. For each chapter, read carefully the sections called “General Analysis of the Message” and “The Background,” but only skim quickly the concluding “Issues and Problems for Reflection” and any other sections in between.

Writing:

• Each month, you are expected to write a brief reflection paper, due at the beginning of the following month's session (click the previous link for further instructions and a sample format for these monthly papers).
• You will be asked to write one longer research paper, due in November (more detailed instructions for this will be available by September, if not earlier).
